Water for the Thirsty

Freedom of speech

Weekly Devotional

‘As the deer pants for streams of water so my soul pants for you, O God’. (Psalm 42:1)
‘…Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink”…’ (John 7:37)

‘Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything…’ (Philippians 4:6 NLT)

We are not only free to pray at any time and in any place, but also on any subject. There is no area of life that cannot be taken to God in prayer, asking for his help, his blessing, his guidance or protection.

In Hebrews 4:6 it says,

‘Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence…’ (NIV)

Strong’s concordance says of this word ‘confidence’ that it has the meaning, ‘freedom, openness, especially in speech; boldness, confidence’.

In other words we can come before God’s throne with complete and bold openness, total freedom of speech; confident that will ‘receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need’. (V.6)

We can bring any and everything to God in prayer.

Which means there is no issue so big that God cannot cope with it: ‘Is anything too hard for the LORD?’ (Genesis 18:14 NIV); ‘For with God nothing will be impossible’ (Luke 1:37 NKJV)

And there is no issue so small that God doesn’t care about it:

‘…even the very hairs of your head are all numbered’. (Matthew 10:30 NIV)

So whatever is on your mind, global terrorism, the crisis in the Middle East, or the fact that your washing has packed up, don’t worry, bring it to Lord in prayer.

As Joseph M. Scriven wrote in his hymn,

‘What a friend we have in Jesus’

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Father, thank you that we can talk to you about absolutely anything. Help us to carry everything to you in prayer, confident that we will find a solace there.

Have a good week carrying everything to God in prayer.
