Water for the Thirsty

I will stand on every promise of Your Word

Weekly Devotional

‘As the deer pants for streams of water so my soul pants for you, O God’. (Psalm 42:1)
‘…Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink”…’ (John 7:37)

Sometimes life can be really tough and it seems that there is little respite from the stresses and strains of modern living.

For me that’s when Stuart Townend’s words come to mind:

From the breaking of the dawn to the setting of the sun
I will stand on every promise of Your Word
Words of power strong to save that will never pass away
I will stand on every promise of Your word

(Every Promise of Your Word)

The song is shaped around 2 Samuel 7:28,

‘Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant’.

What are some of these good things that God has promised for His servants?

Here are a few:

‘So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand’. (Isaiah 41:10)
‘He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?’ (Romans 8:32)
‘…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age’. (Matthew 28:20)
‘…call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.” (Psalm 50:15)
‘And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus’. (Philippians 4:19)

In times of trial and despair hold on to these and the many other promises of God’s Word.

As Townend concludes his song we are,

Not forsaken not alone for the Comforter has come
And I stand on ev'ry promise of Your word
Grace sufficient grace for me
Grace for all who will believe
We will stand on ev'ry promise of Your word

Have a good week experiencing the grace that is sufficient for all of us.
