Water for the Thirsty

What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer

Weekly Devotional

‘As the deer pants for streams of water so my soul pants for you, O God’. (Psalm 42:1)
‘…Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink”…’ (John 7:37)

Nobody who has neglected prayer has grown spiritually in the life of God.

In our Christian walk there is no way we can grow if we ignore or hold back on the practice of prayer.

To gain a deeper knowledge of God we need to talk to Him, and talk to Him daily.

Quite simply we either pray or we fall prey to fears, insecurities and worries

I just love the words of the hymn ‘What a friend we have in Jesus’:

What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge;
take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield thee;
thou wilt find a solace there.

Just meditate on the words,

‘O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer’.

This echoes what Paul tells us in Philippians 4:6-7,

‘Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus’. (New Living Translation)

Because of Jesus we may,

‘…approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need’. (Hebrews 4:16)

What a privilege it is for us to carry everything to God in prayer.

By doing so comes, peace, grace, mercy, help in time of need; we ‘find a solace there’.

Have a good week growing spiritually as you carry everything to God in prayer.
